Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito D. Roque said its Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) has opened its online pre-registration through its job-matching facility, the Phil-JobNet to accommodate the registration of job applicants who may wish to avail of the Job and Livelihood Fairs on May 1.

Roque said jobseekers will now have a better chance of finding a job that will suit their qualifications as the processing of application documents has been made a lot easier and simpler.

Nationwide job, livelihood fairs to mark Labor Day

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) today said a nationwide Job and Livelihood Fair will be held simultaneously in various parts of the country on May 1, 2010 to mark Labor Day in honor of the Filipino workers.

Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito D. Roque said the Job and Livelihood Fair will showcase the collaboration of the social partners in the efforts to facilitate the employment of workers while celebrating at the same time the 108th Labor Day anniversary on May I this year.

Roque said the country's biggest labor groups such as the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), National Alliance of Trade Unions (NATU), Federation of Free Workers (FFW), Trade Unions of the Philippines and Allied Services (TUPAS), Alliance of Filipino Workers (AFW), and other labor organizations will lead the May 1 celebration with the theme "Manggagawang Pilipino, Kaagapay sa Pagbabago."

The theme underscores the crucial role of the workers in the national efforts to achieve development and an opportunity to pay tribute to the Filipino workers, both local and overseas, the Labor Chief said.

Meanwhile, local employers and overseas recruitment and manning agencies are expected to participate in the celebration by offering thousands of local and overseas jobs at the May 1 nationwide Job and Livelihood Fair. The Fair is open from 9 am to 5 pm.

The Labor and Employment Secretary said the DOLE in Regions 1 to 12 including those in CAR, CARAGA, and NCR have begun the groundwork for the participation of employers and the recruitment/manning agencies' in the Labor Day Job and Livelihood Fair.

The main event will be held at the SMX Convention Center at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.   To avoid heavy concentration of jobseekers at SMX, the employers and recruitment/manning firms will also be distributed and placed in five other Job and Livelihood Fair venues at Megamall, SM North EDSA, SM Fairview, SM San Lazaro, and SM South in Las Pinas.

Similar events will likewise be held in 14 other key regional sites around the country.

Roque said jobseekers are encouraged to register with the PhilJobNet starting April 8 to April 30 as this will hasten skills and job matching and the placement of qualified applicants.

He added that a One-Stop Shop where new graduates and other new entrants to the labor force may avail of pre-employment documentation services from DFA, NSO, BIR, SSS, and Phil Health will also be set up at the Job Fair venues.    Workers may also inquire on the services of Pag-ibig, PRC, and FFW.

Aside from the Job Fair, the venues will also showcase the livelihood programs of DOLE and other government agencies to provide livelihood opportunities to interested clients. It will include display and selling of products of livelihood program beneficiaries.

The DOLE Chief said various government agencies including labor groups will put up livelihood and productivity information booths to provide business counseling and entrepreneurship orientation to interested workers.   Interested registered nurses who want to venture in other health and wellness services may also be assisted under Project EntrepeNurse.

At the same time, TESDA will conduct skills competition, demonstration, and training. Other agencies will provide basic medical and first aid services, and legal and welfare assistance.

150,000 jobs await applicants on Labor Day

By SHIANEE MAMANGLU
April 12, 2010, 4:18pm

The Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) promised Monday to gather around 150,000 job vacancies during the Labor Day job and livelihood fair on May 1.

Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito Roque said local employers and overseas recruitment/manning agencies have assured to provide the needed jobs to qualified new graduates and jobseekers and help facilitate the employment of workers during the 108th Labor anniversary this year.

"There are actually plenty of jobs and other livelihood opportunities offered to workers during the Labor Day celebration,'' he said.

"The DoLE in Regions 1 to 12 including those in CAR, Caraga, and NCR have already started the groundwork for the participation of employers and the recruitment/manning agencies,'' Roque said.

For local jobs, Director Criselda Sy of the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE) said 16,000 new graduates and other job hunters will be given on-the-spot employment on May 1.

The BLE is optimistic that it can provide jobs to about 15 percent of the projected 45,000 applicants nationwide, Sy said.

Among the local job offerings are business process outsourcing (BPO) or call center representatives and corporate, accounting and human resource personnel. Overseas jobs available include staff nurses, industrial electricians, welders, cooks, caretakers and those in information technology and carpentry.

Sy urged job seekers to register online with the DoLE's Philjobsnet in order to immediately match with available vacancies.

Sy said the labor department will also put up at the job fair venues a One-Stop Shop where new graduates and other new entrants to the labor force may avail themselves of pre-employment documentation services from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), National Statistics Office (NSO), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Social Security System (SSS), and PhilHealth.

At the same time, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is expected to conduct skills competition, demonstration, and training while other agencies will provide basic medical and first aid services, and legal and welfare assistance.

Aside from the job fair, the May 1 celebration will also showcase livelihood programs of DoLE and other government agencies.

The DoLE will likewise put up livelihood and productivity information booths to provide business counseling and entrepreneurship orientation to interested workers.

The May 1 celebration will be led by the country's biggest labor groups such as the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), National Alliance of Trade Unions (NATU), Federation of Free Workers (FFW), Trade Unions of the Philippines and Allied Services (TUPAS), Alliance of Filipino Workers (AFW), and other labor organizations.

It will be held in various venues at SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, SM Fairview, SM San Lazaro, and SM Southmall in Las PiƱas.

The main event will be held at the SMX Convention Center at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

The theme for this year is "Manggagawang Pilipino, Kaagapay sa Pagbabago."
