Canadian employers here next week for recruitment

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) announced yesterday that Canadian employers will arrive in the country next week to recruit qualified Filipino workers who will fill up the job vacancies in the host country.

POEA Administrator Jennifer Manalili said three Canadian employers, particularly those in British Columbia, will conduct interviews of qualified applicants from the country's top recruitment agencies.

"The Canadian employers are looking for long haul drivers, food counter attendants, and hotel workers. Applicants for long haul drivers must have at least two years experience, Class 1 license or equivalent," Manalili said.

Deputy Minister Mike Carter of the Ministry of Technology, Trade, and Economic Development of British Columbia will lead the delegation of Canadian employers who will visit the country from Oct. 6-7.

Based on the advisory posted by POEA, the needed hotel workers are room attendants, food and beverage servers, dishwashers, cooks, front desk agent, and spa workers.

Applicants were advised by the POEA to apply for the positions in any of the 12 recruitment agencies, among others, AG&P Co. of Manila, Dahlzen International Services Inc., EDI Staffbuilders International Inc., EEI Corp., Eligardi Enterprises Inc., Gatchalian Promotion Talents Pool Inc., Industrial Personnel & Management Services Inc. (IPAMS), International Skill Development Inc., Manpower Resources of Asia Inc., and Omanfil International Manpower Corp.

The Canadian province of Alberta has expressed interest in hiring skilled Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) for its oil and gas industry, food counters, as well as construction jobs for various infrastructure projects.

Alberta Ministry of Employment and Immigration chief Hector Goudreau said about 30,000 to 35,000 jobs are available for Filipino workers in one of Canada's largest provinces.

Skilled and qualified welders will reportedly receive a monthly salary of 6,000 Canadian dollars while 3,800 Canadian dollars will be given for pipe fitters.

Their salaries are much higher compared to what workers get in Saudi Arabia.
